  • 2 cups elbow macaroni
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp paprika (optional)
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Cook the Pasta

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add macaroni and cook until al dente (about 8 minutes). Drain and set aside.

2. Make the Cheese Sauce

In a medium saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute, whisking constantly.

3. Add Milk & Seasonings

Gradually whisk in the milk, stirring until the sauce thickens (about 3-4 minutes). Add salt, pepper, and paprika.

4. Melt the Cheese

Reduce heat to low and stir in cheddar and mozzarella until fully melted and smooth.

5. Combine Pasta & Sauce

Add the drained pasta to the cheese sauce, stirring until evenly coated.

6. Assemble

Grease a baking dish with oil or butter. Pour the mac and cheese mixture into the dish and spread evenly.

7. Add Topping

Sprinkle breadcrumbs evenly over the top for a crispy finish.

8. Bake

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown and bubbly.

9. Serve & Enjoy

Let it cool for a few minutes before serving. Grab a fork and dig in!

For an extra crunchy topping, mix breadcrumbs with a tablespoon of melted butter before sprinkling over the mac and cheese.
