About Us

Hello, Fellow Hungry People!

This site started in 2016 as a food blog by Kyle Prevost, who enjoyed eating and journaling about his experiences with meal kits in Canada. While Kyle is no longer with us, having decided to explore new challenges, his passion for food continues to inspire our work. Today, we are a team of five food lovers who not only like to eat but also have a passion for collecting data, analyzing it, and sharing our findings with fellow Canadians interested in meal kits and other meal plans.

We’ve always enjoyed the eating aspect of food much more than the cooking part. While meal kits haven’t turned us into 5-star chefs, they have allowed us—rookies in the kitchen—to make a wide variety of fresh, delicious, and nutritious meals in only 30 minutes! Initially, it took longer, but as our cooking skills improved, the total meal prep time significantly reduced.

Meal kits have also given us the confidence to try new recipes and ingredients we might have otherwise overlooked. The convenience of having pre-portioned ingredients delivered to our doorsteps has eliminated the stress of meal planning and grocery shopping, allowing us to focus on the joy of cooking and eating. This newfound confidence has even inspired some of us to experiment with our own recipes and cooking techniques outside of meal kits.

When we decided to try meal kits for the first time, we were looking for a solution to our dinnertime dilemma. We were very reluctant to take responsibility for planning a meal, shopping for ingredients, or doing anything outside our comfort zone. Meal kits have not only delivered dozens of excellent meals to our literal doorsteps, but they have also taught us the finer points of cooking certain types of food, broadened our taste horizons, and helped our ever-evolving quest to eat better.

After our meal kit epiphany, we decided to create a resource that explained what meal kits were and compared different options available throughout Canada. Part of creating the Ultimate Canadian Meal Kit Guide involved eating a bunch of delicious food—not just because we want you to understand but in the name of accurate, science-based food journalism!

The potential problem was that not all of us had access to all of Canada’s meal kit options. As a result, we’ve created a team of reviewers to assist us in building and updating the current meal kit scene from coast to coast to coast.

Check out our Chef’s Plate Review (our team’s personal favorite food box subscription), Hello Fresh Review, and Goodfood Review for a look at the top three meal kit companies in Canada today. Also, there are now very healthy and fresh prepared meals available which we can also recommend if there is no time for cooking: Meal Prep Delivery.

Our goal is simple: We want to help Canadians make informed choices on the best meal kits for their taste buds, wallets, and precious time. The industry is consistently changing with new products, prices, and brands, which is why our mission is to stay updated and provide you with the latest and most accurate information on meal kits in Canada. By staying informed, we ensure that our recommendations reflect the best options available, helping you navigate the ever-evolving landscape of meal kits with confidence and ease.

We are always happy to hear about your experiences and thoughts on meal kits, or suggestions on how we can improve our site and mission further. Feel free to drop us a line at [email protected] and share your stories with us!

We don’t deliver meal kits but you can find the best options for your own zip code using our tool – meal kit finder – here.

Hi Catherine,
Hope you are doing well. I can recommend a great place you should check out. They deliver wonderful KETO meals to your door step. They also have a variety of meal packs suited for everyone. And the best thing about them is that they have a KETO bakery and many KETO desserts! I hope this was helpful!

I don’t seem to see the contact information for Kyle Provost – so I hope to share my experience with you about Good Food_ this company has a phone number listed but really it’s only an online contact available. This is an issue for seniors who may be computer iliterate. So as a dietitian I cannot be recommending this company to my patients.

Angela, thank you for sharing. The site’s staff, including Kyle, come from a Fintech background. We are HUGE believers in moving away from telephone sales to a fully automated process. We do realise there are people who are computer illiterate but this is just where this world is progressing. I think GoodFood are able to offer such a relatively good price for a meal consisting of fresh ingredients by having less overhead costs (as a result of an all-online service). Curious to hear further thoughts on this and thank you.

It would be great if you could take environmental impact into consideration in your reviews. I’ve noted, with Good Food at least, that their claims are false. They do not pick up boxes, and the components are not all recyclable in Ontario. It is 2020 — they should figure this out!

Thanks for the reviews. I noticed that you say delivery is free for most companies, so I thought you might want to update that Hello Fresh is charging $9.99 for delivery (I live in New Westminster). The boxes are coming in at $79.98, so with the delivery it is costing $14.99 per meal.

Just for the record…Hello Fresh does NOT have single serving meals…regardless of what they advertise or say. I spoke with them, and they said their idea of a single serving portion is (get this) to buy a 2 person serving, and call it a single serving with leftovers. Mighty expensive leftovers if you ask me. Hello Fresh did apologize however, and said they are working on it, and hope to have actual single servings in the (hopefully) near future. To my knowledge there is no meal kit companies serving BC that make provisions for single servings. Or if there is… Read more »

Absolutely, we appreciate the feedback. Think of this from the companies’ perspective – shipping and logistics are expensive for fresh products, and Canada is quite widespread… they have to have a minimum quantity, and I don’t see that ever changing for the big nationally operating companies. We are making our utmost efforts to find more smaller regional companies, these ones may be more flexible. We will let you know if we find any company in BC offering that (a company which we actually recommend using, of course).

Dear Meal Kits Canada Team, I so appreciate the service you provide, and am certain many find it useful. I am sure collecting all this info is demanding work. And sometimes mistakes happen. As Community Engagement Ambassador for Crave Healthiness, allow me to point out a mistake I am sure you are eager to correct. Our prices at Crave Healthiness range very close to those of other wonderful meal prep providers in our neighborhood. Our prices range from $16 – $26, not from $22 – $48. This gives visitors to your site the impression that we charge a premium compared… Read more »
